Slums near Bipin Park

With a group of kids, and our friend Dan Snyder

During our trip at the beginning of 2017 we knew we wanted to bless this specific area of Mymensingh. After about a month into our trip we decided this was the location we wanted to have our daycare. What started as a dream 4 years ago is now a reality. There are 10 students enrolled that are having a great time in class. Their parents are thrilled to have them in a safe location during they day while their older children are in school. Their living situation is less than ideal and for parents to raise their kids the best they can, they need to both be able to work. It's nearly impossible for both parents to work if they have young children, unless they have family that is able to watch their little ones. It is our goal to help improve the lives of these families by giving them the accessability to child care so they can earn an income and potentially save enough money to get out of the slums.

The slum neighborhood near Bipin Park is set to become a city road, so what is currently living space for over a thousand families, will be torn up and turned into a road and these families will be displaced. It is our goal to make sure as many of these families as possible have access to somewhere else to go when their homes are removed from the government property they currently stand on.

The poverty level here in Bangladesh is real. Some people are not as "poor" as others, some have refridgerators, some don't. Some live in slums, some are completely homeless and go from living at the train station, to staying anywhere that will allow them. Most of these families have children that beg, or have begged for food or money. The hardest thing to experience when you are here is the inability to help everyone that needs it. When little ones come to me asking for money, and I have none to give (as I don't carry any with me on a regular basis) I am heartbroken. I feel terrible when I encounter someone I can't help.

Jhumur is a 10 year old girl living in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. We met her while she was begging in the park. Her father does not live at home, and does not provide financial support for her family. In order to pay for rent and food, Jhumur begs for money from strangers. Her income from begging single handedly paid the bills, as her mother is not well enough to work full-time. Help us support families like Jhumur's so these young children can be in school, where they can learn in a safe environment. When you support New Hope International, you are paying the rent and grocery bills for Jhumur's family, and others like hers, so that the children do not feel the pressure to bring home an income.
